Overview

Hi-Bis GmbH, a joint venture between Honshu Chemical Industry, Mitsui & Co., and formerly Bayer, has established a production plant for specialty bisphenol in Bitterfeld. This plant supports the production of ApecĀ® HT, a highly heat-resistant plastic used in automotive lighting, lighting, and electrical industries.

Investment and Capacity

The plant began production on 3 November 2004, marking the first Japanese investment in Saxony-Anhalt. Due to high demand, the joint venture partners reinvested in the plant, doubling its annual capacity to 10,000 tons as of November 2014. The total investment for the plant was 73 million euros.

The plant employs 54 workers and is integrated into the local industrial ecosystem. It benefits from services provided by Bayer Bitterfeld GmbH, including personnel, environmental protection, safety management, and gate services.

Cultural Significance

A Japanese Shinto priest consecrated the site during the foundation stone laying and commissioning ceremonies, reflecting the harmony between man and nature, a core aspect of Japanese tradition.
