Expansion of Biodiesel Production
INEOS Enterprises plans to double its biodiesel production capacity at Baleycourt, Verdun (France) from 110,000 to 220,000 tonnes per year by 2008. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to meet increasing demand for renewable energy sources.
New Facility and Local Integration
The new biodiesel facility will be located in France’s second largest vegetable oil producing region. It will be supported by a new grain crushing and vegetable oil refining plant, enabling the transformation of 400,000 tonnes of locally produced rapeseed into oil and subsequently into biodiesel.
Investment and Partnerships
The project involves an investment of over €70 million, which will be shared between INEOS and its local partners. This significant financial commitment underscores the importance of the project to both the company and the region.
Government Quotas and Market Supply
This investment aligns with the French government’s commitment to increasing the proportion of green fuels used in the country. In March 2005, the Baleycourt site obtained a quota to supply the French market with 40,000 tonnes of biodiesel per year. The company aims to increase this quota in the next round of allocations before the end of the year.
