- INA invests €98 million in green hydrogen and biomethane plants in Croatia.
- Construction of both plants is expected to be completed in 2026.
- A 10 MW electrolyser for green hydrogen will be installed at the Rijeka Refinery.
- Biomethane plant in Sisak will use agricultural residues and biodegradable waste.
Investment and Project Overview
INA has committed €98 million to two new renewable energy projects in Croatia: a green hydrogen plant at the Rijeka Refinery and a biomethane production facility in Sisak. Both projects are slated for completion in 2026.
Green Hydrogen Plant
The Rijeka Refinery will host a 10 MW electrolyser for green hydrogen production, partially powered by a solar plant. This project will make INA the first commercial producer of green hydrogen in Croatia. Key equipment will be supplied by IVICOM Consulting.
Biomethane Production Facility
In Sisak, INA plans to build a biomethane plant using agricultural residues and biodegradable waste. The biomethane will be fed into Croatia's gas system, and the production residue will serve as eco-friendly fertilizer. Biogest, an Austrian company, will handle engineering, procurement, and construction.
Funding and Future Plans
The green hydrogen project will receive co-financing from the Croatian Recovery and Resilience Facility, with plans to apply for similar funding for the Sisak biomethane project. INA is also exploring geothermal energy and additional solar power projects, with two solar plants already operational in Virje and Sisak.
