Iberdrola opens Fénix 243 MW photovoltaic plant in Italy

Capacity and output
Fénix is a 243 MW photovoltaic plant with annual production close to 400,000 MWh, sufficient to cover the equivalent consumption of more than 140,000 homes.
Site and construction
Located between the municipalities of Centuripe, Paternò and Belpasso in the provinces of Enna and Catania (Sicily), the facility was built with a peak workforce of more than 500 professionals and includes over 413,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules.
Grid connection and technology
The plant is connected to the electricity system via 26 kilometres of medium-voltage lines and 9 kilometres of high-voltage lines.
Commercial agreements and inauguration
Most of Fénix’s production is contracted through long-term power purchase agreements with top-tier Italian companies to stabilise energy costs and secure supply. The opening ceremony was attended by Hugh Elliott, executive president of Iberdrola Energía Internacional; Valerio Faccenda, country manager of Iberdrola Italia; Spanish ambassador Miguel Ángel Fernández-Palacios Martínez; and regional and municipal authorities.
