Project
Holcim has launched a new calcined clay production line at its Čížkovice plant, the first of its kind in the Czech Republic. The facility will enable the supply of 580 000 tons of ECOPlanet low-carbon cement to customers every year.
Technology and impact
The line has an annual capacity of more than 115 000 tons of calcined clay, sourced from Holcim’s local quarry. It uses patented technology to partially replace clinker in the kiln, reducing the cement’s carbon footprint by around 30% with no compromise in performance.
Investment and support
Čížkovice represents Holcim Czech Republic’s largest-ever investment, at CZK 330 million (CHF 13 million), funded by the nation’s Modernization Fund of the Ministry of the Environment. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said the project demonstrates industry can be modern, competitive and environmentally responsible, combining technological innovation and use of domestic resources.
Strategic context
The new line is part of Holcim’s NextGen Growth 2030 strategy to scale calcined clay worldwide. It follows the 2023 opening of the Saint-Pierre-la-Cour calcined clay line in France and a major line commissioned in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 2025. Holcim’s regional head Xavier Guesnu described the commissioning as an important step to scale next-generation ECOPlanet low-carbon cement to meet customers’ ambitious goals.
