Deal and context

GS Caltex signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding with Veolia on April 3 to innovate utility operations and strengthen sustainability at its Yeosu Complex. The MOU expands a limited, project‑based water treatment relationship and follows French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Korea.

Triple‑X framework

The collaboration will pursue integrated solutions across environmental, energy and digital sectors under a Triple‑X framework comprising Business Transformation (BX), Digital & AI Transformation (DAX) and Green Transformation (GX).

Operational priorities

Under BX the partners will explore integration and optimisation of wastewater treatment operations and opportunities to enhance utility synergies with nearby companies to maximise operational efficiency and competitiveness.

Digital and green measures

DAX will deploy Veolia’s AI‑based digital solutions for real‑time analysis of utility operations, intelligent process management, anomaly detection and predictive maintenance to accelerate the transition to a smart plant. GX will adopt Veolia’s eco‑technologies—wastewater reuse, cooling system upgrades and resource recovery—to reduce carbon emissions and support circular‑economy objectives.
