Turnaround scope and timing
GS Caltex completed its 2026 first-half turnaround at the Yeosu Complex, a scheduled maintenance outage that began in May and covered nine process units over some 60 days. The company invested approximately KRW 200 billion in the project and had an average of 3,000 workers engaged each day.
Digital and AI applications
The turnaround incorporated digital and AI solutions developed under GS Caltex’s Digital & AI Transformation (DAX) strategy. MOVision, an app built with Google Earth and 3D modeling, maps Motor Operated Valves (MOVs), displays detailed 3D information, tracks task completion with color changes and reduces inspection time. A tube‑cleaning robot was used to reach previously inaccessible heater tube areas to remove deposits, expected to improve thermal efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. AI‑powered CCTV monitored multiple risks in real time, checking PPE and harness use and detecting the approach of heavy equipment in high‑risk zones.
Safety and Way of Working
GS Caltex emphasised safety as the highest priority throughout the turnaround and in daily operations. The company’s Safety Leadership Committee (SLC) regularly reviews safety, health and environmental performance, and safety culture programs and leadership guidelines have been expanded to logistics centres, research facilities and domestic and overseas subsidiaries to encourage proactive safety practices.
