Project Overview
RheinEnergie AG and Deutsche Infineum GmbH & Co.KG have signed contracts to construct an 18-megawatt ground-mounted photovoltaic installation at Infineum’s industrial site in Cologne. The project is set to be completed by 2027 and will be one of Germany's largest inner-city solar installations.
Technical Details
The installation will cover approximately 12 hectares and include around 25,300 solar modules, each with a capacity of 710 watts. It is expected to generate an annual output of about 18 million kilowatt hours, sufficient to meet the energy needs of several thousand households.
Environmental Impact
This solar project will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions at Infineum’s Cologne site, contributing to the decarbonization of the local industrial sector. The initiative aligns with Infineum’s 2030 scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.
Strategic Importance
The project strengthens Infineum's competitiveness by reducing CO₂ emissions and supports RheinEnergie's role as a leading energy services provider. It also contributes to the City of Cologne’s climate protection objectives, demonstrating that climate goals and commercial interests can align.
