Genentech expands Hillsboro site with device fill-finish facility
- Approximately $750 million investment to add a device fill-finish facility and double the existing Hillsboro site size.
- Expected to create 250 high-wage manufacturing jobs and roughly 200 construction jobs, with commercial operations slated for 2031.
- Facility will support pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors and offer flexible high- and low-volume filling across Genentech’s portfolio.
- Adds end-to-end device filling to the Hillsboro campus to strengthen U.S. manufacturing and domestic supply-chain resilience.
Investment and schedule
Genentech will invest approximately $750 million to build a new device fill-finish facility at its 75-acre Hillsboro, Oregon campus. The project will double the size of the existing facility and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2031.
Capacity and capability
The facility is being designed for flexible manufacturing and will support advanced drug delivery devices, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors. It will be capable of both high- and low-volume device filling to accommodate changing portfolio needs.
Jobs and local impact
Genentech expects the expansion to create approximately 250 high-wage manufacturing jobs and support about 200 construction jobs during site development. Hillsboro’s established infrastructure and skilled workforce were cited as key reasons for the site choice.
Network context
The Hillsboro addition follows a recent topping-out milestone at Genentech’s Holly Springs, North Carolina facility and forms part of Roche and Genentech’s broader U.S. manufacturing and R&D footprint, which includes 13 manufacturing sites, 15 R&D sites and roughly 25,000 employees across 24 locations in eight states.
