Evonik completes backward integration of MetAMINO® network with Mobile methyl mercaptan unit
- Evonik finished backward integration at its world-scale MetAMINO® (DL‑methionine) hub in Mobile, Alabama.
- Key intermediate methyl mercaptan is now produced on-site in Antwerp, Singapore and Mobile, fully integrating the global network.
- The Mobile optimisation reduces DL‑methionine’s carbon footprint by about 7% and lowers transport of hazardous intermediates.
- Integration is intended to boost efficiency, supply security and reduce exposure to market volatility for customers in the Americas.
Project completion
Evonik has completed the backward integration of its world-scale MetAMINO® (DL‑methionine) production hub in Mobile, Alabama, adding on‑site production of the key intermediate methyl mercaptan in the Americas.
Global integration
With methyl mercaptan produced on‑site in Antwerp (Europe), Singapore (Asia) and now Mobile (Americas), Evonik says its global methionine production network is fully integrated.
Operational and sustainability impacts
The optimized Mobile setup reduces the carbon footprint of DL‑methionine by around seven percent and lowers the need to transport hazardous intermediates, improving safety and cutting logistical risks.
Market implications
Evonik positions the integration as strengthening efficiency and supply security, reducing exposure to market volatility and enabling more reliable regional supply for MetAMINO® customers in the Americas.
