European eSAF Coalition — Arcadia eFuels, INERATEC, Norsk e‑Fuel, SkyNRG, ZAFFRA
- The Coalition asks EU institutions, national governments and NATO partners to make eSAF a strategic priority for energy security, competitiveness and defence readiness.
- It sets four priorities: recognise domestic sustainable fuel production as strategic, create bankable demand signals, bridge the cost gap, and open jet fuel markets at airports.
- Members represent a multi‑billion‑euro eSAF opportunity with projects across France, Germany, the Nordics, Spain and major European aviation hubs.
- Europe accounts for more than 60% of announced global eSAF production capacity, but many projects struggle to reach final investment decisions due to insufficient demand certainty and limited financing support.
Coalition launch and ask
Arcadia eFuels, INERATEC, Norsk e‑Fuel, SkyNRG and ZAFFRA launched the European eSAF Coalition and called on EU institutions, national governments and NATO partners to make electro‑Sustainable Aviation Fuel (eSAF) a strategic priority for Europe’s energy security, industrial competitiveness and defense readiness.
Priority actions
The Coalition calls for four priority measures: recognise European sustainable fuel production as strategic infrastructure; create bankable demand signals to de‑risk early projects; bridge the cost gap since eSAF remains significantly more expensive than conventional jet fuel; and open Europe’s jet fuel market to remove airport infrastructure barriers for new entrants.
Scale, risk and supply chain
Members say they represent a multi‑billion‑euro eSAF opportunity with projects across France, Germany, the Nordics, Spain and key aviation hubs. While Europe accounts for more than 60% of announced global eSAF production capacity, many projects are struggling to reach final investment decisions due to insufficient demand certainty and limited financing support, risking loss of investment and industrial leadership.
Strategic rationale and next steps
The Coalition argues eSAF — produced from renewable electricity, green hydrogen and captured carbon — is a scalable, drop‑in alternative to imported fossil jet fuel that strengthens energy sovereignty, supply‑chain resilience and both civilian aviation and defence needs. It will continue working with policymakers, industry, investors and defence stakeholders to accelerate deployment and build a secure, sustainable and sovereign fuel supply chain.
