- Eneco's CO2 emissions will be reduced by more than 10% through this agreement.
Agreement Details
Equinor and Eneco have entered into a 5-year agreement to supply up to 0.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas annually to the Netherlands. Deliveries to the Dutch gas grid commenced on 1 February.
Environmental Impact
The gas supplied under this agreement has a lower-than-average greenhouse gas footprint. This is attributed to the production and transport processes on the Norwegian continental shelf, which are more environmentally friendly compared to other European sources.
Sustainability Guarantees
Equinor will provide Eneco with guarantees of origin, termed 'sustainability qualities', through a platform managed by Attributes SAS. This initiative is expected to reduce Eneco's reported CO2 emissions by more than 10%.
Industry Context
This agreement highlights the role of Norwegian gas in enhancing energy security and sustainability in Europe. It also marks one of the initial agreements utilizing the Attributes SAS platform for independent tracking of emissions data.
