EnviTec Biogas expands biomethane capacity with three German projects
- Priborn plant upgraded to biomethane in July with an EnviThan unit rated 475 Nm³/h; the 2004 plant (formerly 550 kWel) received new mixing, storage and auxiliary equipment.
- Friesoythe conversion follows the end of EEG remuneration on 1 Jan 2025; the former 370 kW co‑fermenter is being adapted to feed EWE's grid at 500 Nm³/h initially, with 600 Nm³/h possible long term.
- Delbrück will host a 200 Nm³/h biomethane unit in a 45‑foot container using 4‑ and 6‑inch membranes; container delivery is due in the second week of September and first feed‑in is planned for November.

Project updates
EnviTec has commissioned three EnviThan gas‑upgrading projects in Germany. In Priborn, biogas has been upgraded to biomethane since July using an EnviThan unit rated at 475 Nm³/h; the site, in operation since 2004 and formerly 550 kWel, was expanded with PreMix mixing technology, a special push floor, a technical building, an oxygen generator, three digestate storage tanks with two filling points, a pump house, a separation unit and an emergency flare.
At Friesoythe, conversion of a long‑running family‑operated biogas plant will follow the expiry of EEG remuneration on 1 January 2025. The former 370 kW co‑fermenter is being adapted to feed biomethane into the local EWE gas grid, designed for 500 Nm³/h in the first expansion stage and able to reach 600 Nm³/h in the long term, using renewable raw materials, slurry and manure from the operator's own operations.
In Delbrück, a customer plant will be equipped for biomethane at 200 Nm³/h with 4‑ and 6‑inch membranes installed in a 45‑foot container. The container delivery is scheduled for the second week of September, with first feed‑in planned for November; the owners are two regional farmers who already operate a CHP plant.
Biomethane role
Biomethane is produced by upgrading biogas from organic residues and renewable raw materials and has a composition that almost matches fossil natural gas. It is suitable for electricity and heat generation, as a transport fuel and for industrial processes, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil energy resources.
