EnviTec Biogas secures awards for ~16 MW in German EEG auction

Key highlights
  • Awards were granted for plants totalling around 16 MW electrical capacity.
  • EnviTec registered 19.6 MW for the auction; 82% of that capacity received awards and seven plants totalling 4.7 MW did not.
  • More than 30 individual bids were prepared for the round with a submission deadline of 1 April; awarded plants must be implemented within 3.5 years.
  • EnviTec currently operates 35.9 MW of EEG-supported electrical capacity in majority-owned plants and plans targeted investments and conversions to enable long-term operation and new applications (heat, transport).

Auction result

EnviTec Biogas secured awards for plants with a total electrical capacity of around 16 MW in the Federal Network Agency biomass auction under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). The company had registered 19.6 MW for the auction; 82% of that registered capacity received awards, while seven plants totalling 4.7 MW did not.

Preparation and conditions

Preparation included developing specific technical implementation concepts for each plant, calculating volumes and bid prices, checking Market Master Data Register entries and preparing and submitting application documents. More than 30 individual bids were prepared for the round with a submission deadline of 1 April. Awarded plants must be implemented no later than 3.5 years after the award, and only plants whose existing EEG support expires by 31 December 2029 were taken into account.

Operational and strategic impact

EnviTec currently operates 35.9 MW of electrical generation capacity in the EEG-supported segment through majority-interest plants. Management says the awards move part of the plant portfolio into a long-term secured remuneration framework, creating planning certainty and requiring targeted investment and conversion work that also supports capacity utilisation in the Service segment. The company intends to develop new fields of application for its plants beyond EEG support, such as heat supply and use in the transport sector, while noting that reliable framework conditions—especially in Germany—are needed to succeed.
