Production Curtailment
Elkem ASA will temporarily reduce production at its Rana and Salten plants in Norway. This decision is driven by a challenging market environment, high inventory levels, and elevated power prices. The curtailment may lead to temporary layoffs of employees.
Shutdown Details
As of 13 February, all three furnaces at the Salten plant and both furnaces at the Rana plant will be shut down. This move is part of Elkem's strategy to optimize value creation and provide flexibility to the power market in Northern Norway.
Product Focus
The Rana plant primarily produces ferrosilicon, a critical raw material for the steel industry. Meanwhile, the Salten plant focuses on silicon production, which is used in a wide range of products and applications, including ceramics, batteries, and aluminum alloying.
