Deployment
BASF has commissioned its Durasorb LNG MAX technology at Cheniere Energy’s Corpus Christi LNG facility. Installation began in 2025 and the adsorbent system is now in place on multiple mid‑scale and large‑scale liquefaction trains. Cheniere plans to complete installation and commissioning across the remaining CCL Facility trains by the end of 2027.
Technology and benefits
Durasorb LNG MAX provides a single‑unit adsorption solution to remove trace heavy hydrocarbons (HHCs), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX) and water to cryogenic specifications. The capability prevents freeze‑out of these components and associated downtime, improving operational reliability and feed‑gas flexibility. The technology can be applied in retrofits of dehydration units as well as greenfield projects.
Support and validation
BASF supported Cheniere through preparation, implementation and startup, supplying the technology license, specialty adsorbent materials, proprietary modelling tools and ongoing technical assistance. BASF described the deployment as a scale‑up from earlier small‑scale successes, and Cheniere said the technology has aided its strategic debottlenecking program and the organic growth of its liquefaction platform.
