Mitsubishi Chemical’s DURABIO chosen for Audi Q3 door switch inserts
- Audi selected DURABIO for the door switch inserts in the new Audi Q3, launched in October 2025.
- The door switch panel is produced as a single DURABIO molded component with three textures: high-gloss, grained and matte.
- DURABIO is a partially bio-based engineering polymer derived from isosorbide.
- Mold-in-color capability eliminates painting, reducing CO₂ emissions, waste and VOCs while streamlining production.
Contract and application
Mitsubishi Chemical extended its collaboration with Audi: DURABIO has been selected for the door switch inserts in the new Audi Q3, which launched in October 2025. The project marks the debut of DURABIO in an Audi interior application.
Material characteristics
DURABIO is a partially bio-based engineering polymer derived from isosorbide. The material offers superior resistance to weathering, impacts and scratches, positioning it for high-quality interior uses that require both aesthetics and durability.
Design and manufacturing
The door switch panel is manufactured as a single molded DURABIO component and is produced with three distinct textures—shiny high-gloss, grained and matte—demonstrating molding versatility. Mold-in-color functionality delivers finishes such as piano black and supports a broad color range, removing the need for multiple parts and post-processing like painting.
Sustainability and operational benefits
The addition of bio-based content reduces reliance on fossil feedstocks. By eliminating painting steps, the material reduces CO₂ emissions, waste and VOCs, while streamlining production and cutting related costs.
