Introduction

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's bio-based engineering plastic, DURABIO, has been selected for use in the instrument panels of Honda's new mini passenger electric vehicle, the N-ONE e:, which was launched on September 12, 2025.

Material Composition

DURABIO is primarily made from plant-derived isosorbide, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional materials. Its composition provides enhanced transparency and superior optical properties compared to conventional polycarbonate resins.

Advantages

The use of DURABIO in the N-ONE e: allows for a glossy, high-design finish by simply mixing colorants, eliminating the need for a coating process. This innovation also reduces volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions during manufacturing, contributing to a more sustainable production process.

Future Outlook

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation plans to continue expanding its DURABIO lineup, aiming to provide high-value-added products to the market.
