Key highlights
  • Construction started in October 2024 and operations began in September 2025.
  • The facility is located at 20-1 Miyukicho, Otake-shi, Hiroshima Prefecture.
  • The project targets a COD reduction of 310 tons by FY2029 compared to FY2023.

Project Overview

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation has completed a pilot wastewater treatment facility at its Hiroshima Plant. The facility aims to develop advanced, cost-effective wastewater treatment technology to improve the quality of wastewater from chemical plants.

Timeline and Location

Construction of the facility began in October 2024, and it started operations in September 2025. It is located at 20-1 Miyukicho, Otake-shi, Hiroshima Prefecture, within the MCC Hiroshima Plant.

Objectives and Targets

The project is part of MCC's "Medium-Term Management Plan 2029," which includes a sustainability target to reduce Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) in wastewater. The facility aims to achieve a COD reduction of 310 tons by FY2029 compared to FY2023 levels.

Facility Functions

The pilot facility is designed to test wastewater treatment under continuous and batch processes. It conducts multivariate testing based on variations in wastewater composition, temperature, and pH. The facility combines various wastewater treatment technologies, including biological treatment, membrane separation, and advanced oxidation processes.
