Transpetro Codajas Operation mobilises plan to secure Northern fuel supply

Operation objective
The Codajas Operation has implemented preventive measures since mid‑September to secure fuel supply—especially LPG—during the Amazon dry‑season navigation constraints. Run by Transpetro and Petrobras with Brazilian Navy support, the operation aims to mitigate low‑water impacts on transportation and to maintain outflow from the Urucu oil and gas production hub.
Planned measures and assets
The annual contingency, active between September and December, is being executed amid forecasts of falling river levels. The Amazon Low Water Committee conducts weekly monitoring of climate, river levels and operations and triggers preemptive actions such as early mobilisation and strategic vessel positioning. For 2026, two gas carriers (Gilberto Freyre and Jorge Amado) are dedicated exclusively, backed by the gas carriers Oscar Niemeyer, Barbosa Lima Sobrinho, Darcy Ribeiro and Lucio Costa, and oil tankers Sergio Buarque de Holanda, Romulo Almeida and José Alencar.
Operational measures include deploying the tanker Epic Baluan to Coari as extended storage and using the Navy agreement for ship monitoring and sounding of critical stretches during low water.
Track record and recent activity
Created in 1995, Codajas reaches its 31st year in 2026. The operation supports continuity of oil and natural gas from Urucu, which supplies more than 50% of Amazonas state power generation. During the 2024 drought Transpetro executed 21 dedicated operations and moved over 16,000 tonnes of LPG; in September–October 2025 it shipped more than 60,000 tonnes of LPG and 129,000 m³ of oil.
