Clariant Wins Two Awards at Gulf Energy Information Excellence 2025

Key highlights
  • Clariant's HySat catalyst eliminates hazardous hexavalent chromium.
  • EDHOX Technology converts ethane and oxygen into ethylene and acetic acid.
  • EDHOX reduces Scope 1 CO2 emissions by at least 60%.
  • EDHOX offers CAPEX and OPEX advantages over conventional methods.

HySat Catalyst Innovation

Clariant's HySat catalyst platform is a significant advancement in hydrogenation processes, eliminating the use of hazardous hexavalent chromium (Cr VI). It matches or exceeds the performance of conventional catalysts and is applicable in various processes such as oxo-alcohol and fatty alcohol production. The catalyst's reliability is proven through commercial use and repeated sales, and it integrates easily into existing systems without equipment changes.

EDHOX Technology

Developed by Clariant and Linde, EDHOX Technology uses the OxyMax™ E catalyst to convert ethane and oxygen into polymer-grade ethylene and glacial acetic acid in a single step. Operating at temperatures below 400°C, the process is energy-efficient and reduces Scope 1 CO2 emissions by at least 60%. It offers CAPEX and OPEX advantages and is suitable for greenfield projects, retrofits, and downstream integration.

Awards and Recognition

Clariant received two awards at the 2025 Gulf Energy Information Excellence Awards. The HySat catalyst won "Best Catalyst Technology," while EDHOX Technology, co-developed with Linde, won "Best Petrochemical Technology." These awards highlight Clariant's commitment to sustainable and innovative solutions in the chemical industry.
