Introduction

Chugoku Marine Paints has developed CMP NOVA 2000 (Bio), a bio-based epoxy resin paint, which has received ISCC PLUS certification through the mass balance method. This paint will be used on the ballast tanks of a liquefied ammonia tanker.

Certification and Environmental Impact

The bio-based epoxy resin, supplied by Mitsui Chemicals, is certified to reduce CO2 emissions. This marks the first global use of bio-based epoxy resin paint on marine vessels, aiming to lower emissions during both production and operation.

Additional Coatings

The tanker's bottom will be coated with Chugoku Marine Paints’ SEA PREMIER 2000 PLUS, a fuel-efficient anti-fouling paint. This coating is also expected to contribute to CO2 emission reductions during the vessel's service life.

Project Timeline

The liquefied ammonia tanker is currently under construction by Kegoya Dock Co., Ltd. and is scheduled for delivery in May 2026.
