CATL licenses battery-pack technology to BME for Egyptian 1 GWh plant

Agreement
CATL has signed a cooperation agreement with BME to support battery pack assembly and production in Egypt. Under the agreement BME will source cells from CATL while CATL provides technology licensing, production equipment and technical training to enable local assembly and production of battery packs.
Facility and capacity
The battery pack facility will be developed and fully funded by BME with an initial annual production capacity of 1 GWh focused on heavy-duty commercial vehicle packs. BME's long-term plan targets expansion to 5 GWh annually and a broader product mix that includes passenger vehicle battery packs and energy storage systems for solar and wind power applications.
Partners and market
BME was jointly established by Egyptian commercial vehicle manufacturer MCV and automotive industry solutions provider Auto D. Through its partnership with CATL, BME will supply the battery packs directly to local automakers.
Strategic intent
CATL said it will continue to work with global partners to apply its battery technologies, manufacturing experience and partnership model in additional markets, supporting localization of the battery value chain and wider adoption of electrification solutions.
