Project Overview
Borealis has initiated a solar project at its Belgian manufacturing sites in Kallo and Beringen, installing solar canopies with a total capacity of 3.3 MWp. This initiative involves nearly 4,800 bifacial solar panels, expected to generate 3,250 MWh of renewable energy annually.
Environmental Impact
The solar canopies are projected to reduce CO2 emissions by 550 tons per year, contributing to the EU's renewable energy targets. The canopies also provide sheltered parking for nearly 500 cars and include charging points for electric vehicles.
Partnership and Implementation
ENGIE Sun4Business, a subsidiary of ENGIE, was selected to design, build, and finance the project. They will operate and maintain the system under a solar power as a service model. Borealis will purchase all generated renewable energy under a 15-year agreement, after which they will own the canopies and benefit from free electricity for the remaining lifespan of the system.
