BASF Sells Nutrilife® Baking Enzymes to Lallemand

Transaction Overview

BASF has entered into a binding agreement with Lallemand Inc’s subsidiary, Danstar Ferment AG, to divest its Nutrilife® baking enzymes portfolio and business. The transaction is expected to complete on September 30, 2022, subject to customary closing conditions.

Strategic Fit

According to Michael de Marco, BASF’s Vice President of Global Business Management Enzymes, the baking enzymes business is not a strategic fit for BASF. Lallemand has been identified as a suitable partner to continue and strengthen the Nutrilife® baking enzymes business, ensuring a reliable supply for customers. BASF will support the transaction to ensure a smooth handover.

Lallemand's Expansion

Lallemand has recently ventured into the development and production of enzymes. The acquisition of the Nutrilife® baking enzymes portfolio will broaden their product offerings and expand their geographical footprint. Lars Asferg, President of Lallemand Bio-Ingredients, expressed enthusiasm about providing Nutrilife® customers with enzyme expertise and innovative ingredients based on Lallemand’s yeast and bacteria technology platforms.
