Axens Launches First 100% SAF Unit in Asia

At a glance
  • The unit converts 300 KTA of renewable feedstock into SAF.
  • A two-stage process is used without additional hydrocracking.
  • The unit can produce either 100% SAF or 100% Renewable Diesel.
  • Axens 700 series catalyst is part of the process.

Overview

Axens has launched a 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) unit in Asia, marking a significant development in renewable fuel production. The facility can convert 300 KTA of renewable feedstock into high-value SAF.

Technology and Process

The unit is a revamp of existing hydroprocessing assets, utilizing a simple two-stage scheme. This process, combined with Axens 700 series catalyst, allows for the production of either 100% Renewable Diesel (RD) or 100% SAF, providing flexibility to meet market demands.

Operational Efficiency

Since its inception, the unit has demonstrated stable operation and positive performance. The Vegan® process enables the production of 100% SAF without the need for an additional hydrocracking stage, preventing unwanted co-production of Renewable Diesel.
