Inauguration of Battery R&D Center
Arkema has inaugurated the Christian Collette Center of Excellence for batteries at its Pierre-Bénite Research Center. This facility is dedicated to advancing battery technology and was partly financed by the Région-Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Expansion of Kynar® PVDF Production
To meet the growing demand for lithium-ion battery materials, Arkema is increasing its Kynar® PVDF fluoropolymer production capacity by 50% at the Pierre-Bénite site. This expansion is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2023 and includes the introduction of Kynar® CTO, a new PVDF made from renewable sources.
Strategic Partnerships and Research
The new Center of Excellence will collaborate with academic partners such as CNRS, CPE in Lyon, LEPMI in Grenoble, and ENSCM in Montpellier. It will also work with various partners in the battery ecosystem, including start-ups, manufacturers, and gigafactories, to accelerate the development of advanced battery materials and processes.
Support for Clean Mobility
Arkema aims to achieve at least €1 billion in battery sales by 2030, driven by the increasing demand for electric mobility, renewable energy storage, and electronics. The company’s expertise in high-performance materials positions it well to support the clean mobility revolution.
