SDE++ Subsidy Scheme Overview

The SDE++ (Incentive for Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition) is a Dutch government subsidy program aimed at supporting renewable energy projects and CO2 reduction efforts. It targets both public and private sectors to help achieve climate goals for 2030 and 2050.

2024 Application Round Results

The 2024 SDE++ application round had a budget of €11.5 billion, with €10.5 billion in claims submitted. A total of 640 projects were approved, receiving €7 billion in funding. In the CCS/CCU domain, 23 applications were awarded, including 8 CCS permits with budget claims totaling €1,039 million and a combined CO2 reduction of 0.24 Mtpa.

2025 Application Round Details

The 2025 application round opens on 7 October and closes on 6 November, offering a total budget of €8 billion across five technology categories. Funding is available for 12 or 15 years, depending on the technology. Only companies based in the Netherlands are eligible, and those with increased project costs can re-apply.

Expansion of CO2 Storage Support

From the next round, the SDE++ scheme will support CO2 storage outside the Netherlands, including other EU countries and Norway. This change follows a European Commission decision to ensure Dutch CCS projects can compete internationally, while CO2 captured in the Netherlands still counts towards Dutch climate targets.
