Sale of Sant Adriá de Besós Site
Akzo Nobel has sold its Decorative Coatings site near Barcelona to real estate developer Urbis. Financial details were not disclosed. The company will continue operations at the site for up to four years post-sale, allowing time for the construction of a new facility and transfer of activities.
New Facility Plans
The new facility will be built in the greater Barcelona area. A shortlist of potential locations has been drawn up, with a preference for sites close to the existing plant. This new site will house all production, logistics, and warehousing operations for Akzo Nobel's Decorative Coatings organization in Spain.
Strategic Goals
Akzo Nobel aims to grow its position in the Spanish decorative coatings market, one of the largest in Europe. The new facility is expected to be more efficient and better suited to the company's future plans, enhancing market presence and profitability.
Current Operations
The existing Sant Adriá de Besós site produces and markets the Procolor®, Sikkens®, and Bruguer® brands, with most of the paint sold exclusively in Spain. Akzo Nobel plans to transfer as many employees as possible to the new facility.
