Air Liquide Launches Hydrogen Trucks in Netherlands Logistics

Key highlights
  • Two hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX trucks will operate in Rotterdam.
  • Schenk Tanktransport partners with Air Liquide for logistics.
  • Dutch SWiM funding supports vehicle and infrastructure costs.

Hydrogen-Powered Trucks in Rotterdam

Air Liquide has introduced its first hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks in the Netherlands, aiming to decarbonize transportation and promote sustainable mobility. The two MAN hTGX trucks, equipped with hydrogen internal combustion engines, will be operated by Schenk Tanktransport, a key player in sustainable logistics in the Benelux region.

Operational Benefits

These hydrogen trucks will replace conventional vehicles in Air Liquide's distribution network, delivering hydrogen to customers in the greater Rotterdam area. Hydrogen as a fuel source offers fast refueling and long-range capabilities, while eliminating tailpipe carbon emissions, thus maintaining high vehicle availability and payload capacity.

Support from Dutch Government

The project is supported by the Dutch government's SWiM funding scheme, which aims to make hydrogen mobility competitive by bridging the initial cost gap. The program provides funding for both vehicle purchases and refueling infrastructure, fostering local ecosystems for sustainable solutions.
