Key highlights
  • MCC plans to commercialize its chemical recycling business in fiscal year 2025.
  • MCC obtained ISCC PLUS certification for its Ibaraki Plant in July 2025.
  • Circularise Japan K.K. was established in January 2025 to support Japanese companies.
  • Mass balance involves allocating percentages of recycled raw materials in manufacturing.

Introduction

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) is advancing its chemical recycling business by adopting Circularise's "Product Traceability Platform." This move aims to enhance the reliability of its supply chain and support the commercialization of sustainable materials.

Implementation and Certification

MCC plans to commercialize its chemical recycling operations within fiscal year 2025. In July 2025, the company obtained ISCC PLUS certification for its chemical recycling facilities at the Ibaraki Plant, which is set to begin commercial operations and provide mass balance products by the end of the fiscal year.

Platform Adoption

The adoption of Circularise's platform will allow MCC to centralize and simplify mass balance credit management. This system will manage information on the origins and quantities of raw materials, enabling MCC to provide customers with clear and reliable data to evaluate the environmental value of its products.

Mass Balance Concept

Mass balance refers to the allocation of percentages of specific used raw materials, such as recycled materials, to any product during manufacturing. This approach is crucial for compliance with international standards and for communicating the environmental value of products to customers and society.
