- The facility is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2019.
- A tank truck filling facility is also being built to improve delivery efficiency.
Investment and Location
Evonik is investing a double-digit million euro amount in constructing a new multi-purpose facility at its Geesthacht location in Northern Germany, approximately 30 kilometers from Hamburg. This investment aims to expand production capacities for silicones and silane-terminated polymers.
Production and Applications
The new facility will produce a range of silicones and silane-terminated polymers, marketed under the brand names Polymer VS and Polymer ST. These products are utilized in various applications, including parquet adhesives, wound care adhesives, and encapsulation applications in electronics.
Operational Timeline
The new plant is scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2019. In addition to increased production capacity, a facility for filling tank trucks is also being constructed to streamline the delivery and storage process, thereby enhancing efficiency.
Focus Areas
The Geesthacht site, employing around 100 people, will concentrate on silicone and nanotechnology. The silicones and silane-terminated polymers produced will serve as binders in adhesives and sealants, electronics, and medical applications. Additionally, silica-based nanomaterials produced at the site will act as property-enhancing additives in fiber composites used in the automotive and aerospace industries.
