Project Overview

EllaLink, an underwater communications operator, has chosen ZILS – Sines Industrial and Logistic Zone for its new submarine cable station. This decision follows a comparative analysis highlighting ZILS's quality infrastructure, value for money, and strategic location. The project, named "Ellalink," aims to enhance connectivity between Europe and Latin America.

Key Benefits

The new submarine cable will provide a direct and extensive connection between Europe and Latin America, facilitating international market expansion. Europe, with the largest number of international connections, will gain direct access to 75% of the content sought by Latin American users. This link is crucial for scientific collaboration projects between the two continents.

Technical Details

The Ellalink cable, spanning over 10,000 kilometers, will connect the Brazilian cities of Santos and Fortaleza to Sines in Portugal. This direct connection is expected to lower internet service prices and enhance communication security between Latin America and Europe. The project represents a total investment of over $200 million and is scheduled to be operational by 2019.

Strategic Importance

Portugal's strategic position as a waypoint for submarine cable routes in the South Atlantic and its role as a gateway to the Iberian Peninsula and Europe were significant factors in EllaLink's decision. The Sines station will place ZILS on the international communications map, reinforcing its importance in global data transmission.
