New Catalyst Plant in Poland
Umicore has inaugurated a new production plant for emission control catalysts in Nowa Ruda, Poland, near Wrocław. This facility aims to meet the increasing demand for automotive catalysts in Europe, driven by stricter emission regulations in the European Union.
European Expansion
The new plant complements Umicore's existing automotive catalyst production facilities in Germany, France, and Sweden. Located in the special economic zone of Wałbrzych, the plant employs around 80 people and utilizes the latest process technologies.
Technological Advancements
Umicore's catalysts improve air quality by converting harmful vehicle emissions into harmless substances through advanced catalytic processes. The company has been researching automotive catalysts for over 50 years and producing them for over 40 years, significantly reducing harmful pollutants.
Emission Control
Combustion engines produce toxic emissions, and national and regional authorities set limits to improve air quality. Vehicle manufacturers comply with these limits by installing catalysts in exhaust systems, which transform toxic emissions into harmless ones. Most passenger cars and an increasing number of heavy-duty vehicles now feature such catalyst systems.
