Slovnaft Advances Logistics Plant for New Polyethylene Production

At a glance
  • 28 silos installed for low-density polyethylene storage
  • Logistics infrastructure to be commissioned in Q2 2015
  • Total investment exceeds 300 million euros
  • LDPE 4 line construction costs over 200 million euros

Project Milestone

In early June 2014, the construction of the logistics plant for the new LDPE 4 polyethylene production plant reached a significant milestone. The German TALKE Group completed the installation of 28 silos for storing low-density polyethylene, which will be dispatched to customers. The logistics infrastructure is progressing as planned and is expected to be commissioned along with the LDPE 4 production plant in the second quarter of 2015.

Logistics Infrastructure

The storage silos are a crucial component of the logistics plant, directly connected to the polyethylene production line with an annual capacity of 220,000 tons. The 28 silos provide a total storage capacity of 13,500 tons of polyethylene. Additionally, the logistics plant includes a new warehouse for packing and storing polyethylene in bags, loading ramps for shipping, and a transport system.

Investment and Costs

By 2015, Slovnaft will invest over 300 million euros in the production of basic plastics. The construction costs for the LDPE 4 line alone will exceed 200 million euros. The reconstruction of the ethylene unit, which processes primary gasoline and gas to produce raw materials for polyethylene and polypropylene, along with the construction of the associated logistics infrastructure, will require an additional 100 million euros.

TALKE Group's Role

For TALKE, a leading logistics service and consultancy provider for the chemical and petrochemical industries in Europe, the Arabian Gulf, and Asia, the construction of the logistics plant in Slovnaft represents its largest European project to date.
