Investment and Expansion
LANXESS has invested over EUR 5 million in new research and development facilities and an administrative building at its La Wantzenau site in Alsace, France. This investment solidifies La Wantzenau as a key global production location for nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR).
Consolidation of Operations
In 2007, LANXESS centralized all NBR production operations at La Wantzenau, making it the world's largest NBR production site. Earlier this year, the company also relocated its R&D activities from Germany to this site.
Facility Details
The new R&D and quality control area spans 600 m2, while the administrative building covers 2,200 m2. These facilities are designed to lower operating costs and achieve 90% energy savings through the use of heat pumps and solar cells.
Environmental Commitment
Over the past three years, LANXESS has invested EUR 25 million in the La Wantzenau site, with one-third of this amount directed towards safety and environmental improvements. The site plays a crucial role in the company's global strategy for sustainable production.
Production and Markets
The La Wantzenau site produces synthetic rubber used in various applications, including automotive, construction, and oil and gas industries. The facility employs 315 people and manufactures 70 standard and specialty products for around 600 customers in 25 countries, with over 60% of its output exported to non-European markets, primarily in Asia.
