The Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP) is a European Technology and Innovation Platform founded in 2005 by the European Commission. Initially focused on zero-emission fossil fuel power plants, it has evolved to become the EU's official advisor on industrial carbon management.
ZEP bridges industry, research, policy, and civil society to accelerate the deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS), carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), and carbon dioxide removal technologies. Its diverse membership includes energy and industrial companies—such as those in chemicals, cement, and steel—technology providers, infrastructure developers, academia, finance, trade unions, and environmental NGOs.
Through science-based reports, policy recommendations, and stakeholder collaboration, ZEP supports EU initiatives like the Industrial Carbon Management Strategy, Net-Zero Industry Act, and CO2 infrastructure development to enable hard-to-abate sectors to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 while preserving competitiveness.
