Vertoro B.V. is a Dutch deeptech company specializing in the conversion of low-value agricultural and forestry residues into lignin-based liquid renewable carbon carriers. Founded in 2017 as a spin-off from a public-private partnership involving Brightlands Chemelot Campus, DSM, Chemelot InSciTe, Maastricht University, and Eindhoven University of Technology, the company develops mild conversion technology that preserves the natural functionality of biomass.

Its flagship product, Goldilocks®, serves as a bio-based platform product and alternative to fossil crude oil, suitable for producing materials, chemicals, fuels, and fuel additives. The technology enables drop-in compatibility with existing infrastructure, targeting applications in thermoplastics, maritime shipping, and sustainable aviation fuel.

Vertoro operates a demonstration plant at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen, Netherlands, and is advancing plans for a first commercial facility in the Port of Rotterdam. The company is privately held and venture-backed, with recent Series B funding of €17 million co-led by Maersk Growth and Invest-NL. It positions itself in the cleantech and renewable energy sector, aiming to scale through licensing and become a global provider of renewable carbon commodities.
