About UNICEF

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF; also known as Fonds des Nations Unies pour l’enfance and Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia) is a United Nations agency that provides humanitarian and development assistance to children and mothers in more than 190 countries and territories. Established in 1946, it is funded by governments and private donors and works across health, nutrition, education, child protection, and emergency response.

UNICEF is one of the world’s largest buyers of vaccines, essential medicines, and health commodities, and manages extensive supply chains and cold-chain systems. It procures and distributes water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) products, nutritional supplements, and related equipment, and sets technical specifications and quality standards for suppliers. Through these activities and partnerships with manufacturers, UNICEF plays a significant role in markets relevant to the chemical and life-sciences sectors, including vaccine and pharmaceutical procurement, disinfectants, water treatment, and materials used in health and sanitation programs.
