TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research; Nederlandse Organisatie voor Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek) is an independent research and technology organization based in the Netherlands. It conducts applied R&D across energy, materials, and industrial systems, bridging academic knowledge and practical deployment for industry and society.
For the chemical and process industries, TNO develops and validates technologies for more sustainable production, including process electrification (power-to-hydrogen and power-to-chemicals), catalysis and separations, CO2 utilization and storage, circular plastics and chemical recycling, bio-based feedstocks, safety, and digitalization. Activities span laboratory research and modeling through pilot-scale demonstration, testing, standardization, and independent techno-economic and environmental assessments.
TNO works with companies, SMEs, and public partners in bilateral projects and open-innovation programs such as VoltaChem, and participates in European frameworks and national consortia to support industrial decarbonization and circularity.
