Synvina is a technology venture focused on the development and commercialization of bio-based furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) and its polymer, poly(ethylene furanoate) (PEF). Established in 2016 as a joint venture between Avantium and BASF, the company was created to scale FDCA production from pilot to commercial volumes using proprietary catalytic processes.
Synvina’s work centers on FDCA as a building block for PEF and related applications. Target markets include packaging (bottles and films), textiles, and other polymer and polyurethane uses where barrier performance and material efficiency are important. The company engages across the value chain to advance standards, supply agreements, and processing know-how for FDCA/PEF-based materials.
