SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd

About SMJ Energy

SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd is a Malaysian company wholly owned by the Sabah State Government through Chief Minister Incorporated. Established following the 2021 Commercial Collaboration Agreement with PETRONAS, it oversees the state's participation across the oil and gas value chain, acting as a financial investor in upstream, LNG, petrochemical, and related sectors.

The company holds stakes in producing assets, including 50% in the Samarang Production Sharing Contract and 20% in the North Sabah Enhanced Oil Recovery PSC (both operated by PETRONAS Carigali or partners), as well as back-in options in exploration blocks like SB403 and SB409. In midstream, it owns 10% of PETRONAS LNG9 Sdn Bhd at the Bintulu complex. Petrochemical exposure includes a 25% equity interest in Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd, operator of the Sabah Ammonia Urea Plant (SAMUR) in Sipitang—the largest single-train ammonia and urea facility in Southeast Asia. It also manages FPSO and FSO assets via Sabah International Petroleum.
