Abreu e Lima Refinery

About RNEST

The Abreu e Lima Refinery (RNEST), operated by Petrobras, is located in Ipojuca, Pernambuco, within the Suape Port Industrial Complex. It is Brazil's most modern refinery, featuring high automation and international-standard technologies.

Operational since December 2014 with Train 1, it specializes in diesel production, achieving the highest crude-to-diesel conversion rate among Brazilian refineries at 70%, including low-sulfur S-10 diesel. Other products include naphtha, fuel oil, coke, and LPG. Following a 2025 revamp, its current processing capacity stands at 130,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Petrobras is investing approximately R$12 billion to complete Train 2 and related upgrades, doubling capacity to 260,000 bpd by 2029. This expansion aims to boost output of diesel S-10, gasoline, LPG, and naphtha, reducing fuel imports and enhancing energy security. Recent achievements include a production record of 385 million liters of S-10 diesel in April 2026.
