The Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Gdańsk (RDOŚ Gdańsk) is a Polish government authority responsible for implementing environmental policy and nature conservation in the Pomeranian region, including the Baltic Sea coastal zone. It operates within Poland’s system of environmental administration alongside the General Directorate for Environmental Protection.
RDOŚ Gdańsk evaluates environmental impact assessments and issues environmental decisions that set conditions, mitigation, and monitoring requirements for infrastructure and industrial projects, including energy, transport, port, and chemical facilities. The directorate manages Natura 2000 areas and other protected sites, oversees species protection and derogation permits, and ensures compliance with Polish and EU law (e.g., the EIA, Habitats, and Birds directives). It participates in strategic environmental assessments, consults with stakeholders and local authorities, and provides guidance on reducing impacts on air, water, soil, noise, and biodiversity. Its decisions are a key step in permitting and project development across northern Poland.
