Nuclearelectrica SA (SNN) is Romania’s national nuclear energy company, majority owned by the Romanian state and headquartered in Bucharest. The company generates low‑carbon electricity and manages key parts of the country’s civilian nuclear fuel cycle.
Nuclearelectrica operates the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, which has two CANDU 6 pressurized heavy‑water reactor units that supply a significant share of Romania’s electricity. It also owns the Nuclear Fuel Plant (FCN) Pitești, which manufactures CANDU fuel bundles from natural uranium dioxide for domestic use. The company provides associated services including plant maintenance, radiation protection, and interim spent fuel storage at Cernavodă.
