Næringslivets NOx-fond, operating as The NOx Fund or the Business Sector’s NOx Fund, is a Norwegian non-profit organization founded in 2008 by 15 business associations. It functions under long-term NOx Agreements with Norwegian authorities to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions across the business sector, supporting Norway’s obligations under the Gothenburg Protocol and EU emissions directives.

The fund finances concrete NOx-reduction projects by awarding investment grants to affiliated enterprises. Supported measures encompass electrification and energy conversion, exhaust cleaning technologies such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR), energy efficiency upgrades, and low-emission solutions including LNG, battery-hybrid systems, and hydrogen or ammonia propulsion. These initiatives target high-emitting sectors including maritime shipping, offshore oil and gas, fishing, and land-based industry.

Revenue comes from voluntary contributions paid by roughly 800 member companies in exchange for exemption from the fiscal NOx tax. With annual income near one billion NOK, the fund has disbursed billions in support since inception, triggering over 11 billion NOK in technology demand and verified annual NOx cuts of thousands of tonnes. Headquartered in Oslo, it verifies project results, prioritizes cost-effective measures, and collaborates with industry groups to advance Norway’s green technology leadership.

Also known as NOx-fondet, The Business Sector’s NOx Fund, and Norwegian NOx Fund.

Equinor completes Troll electrification but omits second Troll C export compressor

Partial electrification cuts ~330,000 tonnes CO₂/yr; TWEL will finish after commissioning the first electric export compressor on Troll C and omit the second to avoid up to 21 months outage, freeing ~2.3 bcm gas in 2027–28.
