Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) is Namibia’s state-owned port authority responsible for the development, management, and regulation of the country’s commercial seaports. Established in 1994, it operates the Ports of Walvis Bay and Lüderitz, providing marine services (pilotage, towage, vessel traffic), cargo handling, and port estate management. The authority supports Namibia’s role as a logistics gateway to Southern Africa via the Walvis Bay Corridors linking regional markets.
Namport’s ports handle containers, dry bulk, break-bulk, project cargo, and liquid bulk, including petroleum products, chemicals, LPG, and other hazardous cargo through dedicated berths and terminal facilities operated by private concessionaires under Namport’s oversight. Infrastructure includes the Walvis Bay new container terminal (commissioned in 2019) and bulk-handling capabilities that support mining, energy, and industrial supply chains. Operations follow international safety, security, and environmental standards (e.g., IMO/ISPS), with coordinated interfaces to customs, rail, and road networks to enable compliant, multimodal flows of materials and products.
