Ionway is a European battery materials company formed as a joint venture between Umicore and PowerCo, the battery subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. The company develops and manufactures cathode active materials (CAM) and their precursors (pCAM) for lithium‑ion batteries used in electric vehicles.

Ionway’s focus is on supplying high-quality CAM and pCAM to support European cell production, notably for PowerCo’s gigafactories, while helping to localize the battery materials value chain. The venture leverages Umicore’s materials science and process know-how and emphasizes responsible sourcing and traceability of critical metals such as nickel, cobalt, and manganese. Ionway’s activities are positioned to integrate with recycling solutions to enable closed‑loop, lower‑footprint battery materials in Europe.
