Interreg Europe (often referred to as Interreg EU) is a European Union programme under the European Territorial Cooperation objective of cohesion policy. It finances and facilitates policy learning among regional and local authorities across Europe through interregional projects, studies, pilot actions, and capacity building. Funding is primarily provided by the European Regional Development Fund, with participation from EU Member States and selected partner countries. The programme’s Joint Secretariat is based in Lille, France.
While not an industrial operator, Interreg Europe influences the chemical and materials ecosystem by co-financing initiatives on innovation, circular economy, resource efficiency, waste valorization, low‑carbon transition, and environmental performance. Its projects connect public bodies, research institutions, and industry stakeholders to exchange best practices and develop regional action plans that can shape investments in recycling infrastructure, sustainable polymers, and related value chains. Outcomes typically include improved regional policies and the scaling of proven solutions that support the industrial transition relevant to chemicals and advanced materials.
