About GNPC

Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is Ghana’s state-owned oil and gas company, established in 1983 to promote, explore, appraise, develop, and produce the country’s petroleum resources. It manages the State’s interests in petroleum agreements, advances geological knowledge of Ghana’s basins, and facilitates investment across the upstream value chain.

GNPC holds equity and carried interests in multiple offshore licenses and producing assets operated by international partners, and supports exploration through data acquisition and basin evaluation. The corporation also plays a role in the commercialization of natural gas, working with national and international stakeholders to improve domestic gas availability for power generation and industrial use.

Headquartered in Accra, GNPC’s mandate includes fostering local content, capacity building, and technology transfer within Ghana’s petroleum sector. Its activities influence feedstock availability for energy-intensive industries and potential petrochemical development, linking upstream resources to broader industrial growth.
